In the Bag: My CSA Summer of 2009

Here’s the week-by-week stuff in the CSA share for 2009, plus the “extras” I bought at the Farmer’s Market.

5/30 “In the Bag”   Swiss chard, kohlrabi, French breakfast radishes, snow peas, white potatoes, onions.

extras: strawberries, lettuces.

6/06 “In the Bag”   Swiss Chard, French breakfast radishes, red potatoes, ruby carrots, zucchini.

extras: strawberries, lettuces.

6/13 “In the Bag”   Potatoes, small round onions, garlic, red globe radishes, yellow squash, kale, green beans, baby beets.

extras: pickling cucumbers (I like them to eat better than big ones: small, not bitter, less seeds)

6/20 “In the Bag”   A friend picked this up as I was out of town…she reported cute carrots, squash, potatoes, small red and white onions, beans.

6/27 “In the Bag”    ?? (this is what happens when I forget to write it down right away). Potatoes, red and orange carrots, Swiss chard….????

extras: first heirloom tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, peaches, mixed green and yellow beans.

7/4 “In the Bag”   Potatoes, yellow squash and zucchini, Swiss chard, potatoes, bi-color corn, tomatoes.

7/11 “In the Bag”    Potatoes, leeks, Swiss chard, zucchini, yellow squash, pattypan squash, tomatoes, shelled beans (yet to be identified- possible purple-hull peas).

extras: lots of heirloom tomatoes: Brandywine, Cherokee Purple & others like Fletcher; small cucumbers, yellow peaches white peaches, sweet corn, cantaloupe.

7/18 “In the Bag”     Mmmmmm…lots of tomatoes, potatoes, mixed color carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, purple eggplant, white & green Japanese eggplants.

extras: even more heirloom tomatoes, peaches & cream corn, cantaloupe.

7/25 “In the Bag”    Swiss chard, red and orange carrots, yellow squash, zucchini, small white eggplants, purple eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes.

extras: even more heirloom tomatoes (Cherokee purple and German Johnson), cantaloupe.

8/1 “In the Bag”    Swiss chard, red potatoes, tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, basil, green beans, cherry tomatoes.

No extras. I was out of town & a friend picked up the bag for me. But I brought back yellow beans and cucumbers from my daughter’s.

And this was the last week of my CSA shares. Now I am back to just purchasing good-looking stuff at the market each week.
