Christmas is coming…even to the Farmer’s Market

They had a special Holiday Market at MFM today. What fun! And cold!! the coffee stand was doing really really good business! Lots of artisans with gifts: pottery, metal work, soaps and lotions, wood carving, birdhouses, jewelry. But also breads and baked goods and sauces prepared foods and meats and seafood and cheese and jellies and preserves and whatever vegetables were available. I had dress rehearsal for choir in the morning, so unfortunately missed the start of the market, and they were out of beets and spinach and lettuce by the time I got there around noon… I did get red potatoes and sweet potatoes. and a beautiful basket of plants to set outside. I do have a wreath on the door, but I can enjoy the plants for the season, then plant most of them, and reuse the basket for other seasons.

Best winter potato recipe is Roasted potatoes: Wash carefully white (or red-skinned) potatoes AND sweet potatoes.  Cut into bite-sized pieces. Place in a bowl  about one teaspoon olive oil for each potato and seasonings or herbs to taste (salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, whatever). Add potatoes and toss until coated. Place in a pan with edges and roast at 400 for about 15 minutes, then loosen, turn over and roast for another 10 – 15 minutes until  lightly browned and crispy
